The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (March 20-22, 2005)

Having heard so much about this novel, I still had no idea what it was really about. For some reason, I imagined it to be much longer. I expected it to be written in the vein of Lord of the Rings, or maybe like a Ray Bradbury story. I was surprised in reading it that the book reminded me of neither.

The story begins with the destruction of Earth. Ford Prefect rescues Arthur Dent and they begin hitchhiking through the galaxy. Ford, is a researcher for the revised edition of a reference book called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, stored on something similar to a palm pilot. Then their adventures begin.

It’s a unique story, imaginative, and very humorous. Also, it is a very short read. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I read it earlier, probably while I was in high school and my friends were hyping it up, so I would have been able to joke about mice, Deep Thought and 42 along with them. I think this book is best suited for a young adult reader.
