The Watchman and Other Poems
L. M. Montgomery published a single volume of poetry titled, The Watchman and Other Poems in 1916 by McClelland, Goodchild & Stewart. All of these poems had been previously published in magazines.1

She dedicated the volume to:

"To the memory of the gallant
Canadian soldiers who have laid
down their lives for their
country and their empire."

The Watchman and Other Poems may be read online as an E-text at the Celebration of Women Authors website.

Personally, I enjoy Montgomery's novels much more than her poetry, largely because she was exceptional at catching human character on paper. Her poetry, on the other hand, though beautiful, lacks this quality. Oftentimes, the descriptions are repetitive, such as the comparison of the ocean to wine. I read an original copy of this book, which is scanned to the left.
